The online dating site eHarmony has recently conducted a survey of its members concerning various aspects of relationships. One aspect was pick-up lines.
The research found that 44% of women who answered the survey thought that the technique was worth it, even if the lines used were really cheesy. Yes, even “Did it hurt when you fell from Heaven?”
However, the majority of those questioned still viewed pick-up lines as a no-no. It has been found that “fake”, cliché pick-up lines (“That shirt looks nice on you, but would look better on my bedroom floor”) will not help start a conversation nor get a relationship going.
People who do use pick-up lines are usually viewed as sociable and funny, but also as less intelligent or trustworthy. Not very desirable for some.
The research showed a stronger support for a more direct approach. For example: “I noticed you from across the room and knew I had to meet you.” Something like that, something nice and simple.
However, the best approach found was being introduced by a mutual party member who is trusted by both people.
Have you experienced a really bad pick-up line? What has been the best you have heard so far?
